To investigate the parent¢¥s knowledge and practice related to experience degree of preschool children¢¥ s dental caries, questionnaires and oral examination_ were conducted for 312 preschool children of 3-5 years old and their parents in taegu from 1st to 30th of September, 1991.
The dft rate for 312 preschool children who were examined was 89.7%. the more¢¥ children s age increase, the more dft rate increased with statistically significant difference(p<0.105). f rate decreased(p<0.05).
Among the parents, dft rate of parents who had known a correct knowledge on oral hygiene was increased significantly (p<0.001) dft index decreased significantly (p<0.05).
The more parent s brushing frequency increase in control of parent¢¥ s oral hygiene, the more d rate showed significant increase (p<0.05), the more parents use a correct brushing method, the more parents make children brush tooth on time frequently and the more children who follow parent¢¥s advice on tooth brushing well, the more dft rate and index showed significant reduction (p<0.05), the more children prefer sweet food, the more children¢¥s sugar intake increase the more dft rate and index increased significantly (p<0.05).The results of the stepwise multiple regression analysis on dft experience degree were as follow = the variables that have an effect on dft rate were exchanging number of deciduous teeth parent¢¥ s knowledge on the number of deciduous teeth, children s dietary habits, children s brushing frequency and children s age_ the variables that have an effect on dft index were children s age, sex and dietary habits, the variables that have an effect¢¥¢¥; on d rate were parent¢¥ s brushing frequency, children s brushing frequency and the experiezice of parent¢¥ s preventive dental visits. the variables that have an effect on f rate were children¢¥s age.
The results obtained in this study suggest that parent¢¥ knowledge and practice on oral hygiene have a great influence on behavior on children¢¥s oral hygiene. so the education on knowledge and practice is need for both parents and children. it is need cohort study because this study couldn¡¯t reveal a correct timing relationship between dft rate and factor,
